To whom it may concern, If you have an opportunity to represent Shashana Kaplan… seize it. You will be very fortunate to have her on your roster. I’ve worked in commercials for the past 15 years as a director and worked with many high caliber makeup artists… she’s the best I’ve ever come across. Not only are her skills amazing, but she is always a pleasure to work with. She never has a bad attitude, is always willing to meet all the crazy demands made by clients, and always coming in on budget without complaining. I’d like to give two examples to back up what I’m saying. Recently we worked together on a job for Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield where the principal talent, a young teenager, during our lunch break found out her mother had been murdered in Haiti. She left in tears with her Father who came by. We had a real situation on our hands… do we re-shoot the entire commercial with new talent, which would be a financial nightmare or do we come up with another solution where this young actress could get the credit for all her work up to that point. Shashana saved the day. Running home and grabbing a wig she had and recut it to match the girl’s hair. It was a perfect match. Our wardrobe stylist stepped in and was used as a body double. It was Shashana that saved the day and gave this beautiful young actress, who had already suffered, the ability to get a credit on her first commercial ever. Another example was on a job I recently directed for Baskin Robbins. It was hardly a typical job but one in which Hair and make up were key. Shashana had to work with a variety of hair pieces and styles because the client and the Agency couldn’t decide which was the appropriate way. Shashana gave them 5 options in about an hour. I had never seen anything like it. Each option was better than the one before and each worked. The client was blown away… as was I. She was brilliant and had me laughing hysterically with each option. It is that type of commitment and passion that she brings to her work.
